Trans-atlantic partnership

The crisis facing our planet and food systems is global, but very often the effects and solutions are distinct and local. This unique international cooperation between three partners (see below) aims to build a coherent coalition of young leaders that understand our differences and can thus build upon what we share in common to deliver a global response.

The Transatlantic Partnership Project will be completed during 2012, with a Food Connections conference and a series of research and student/producer exchange activities, including supporting student participation in Rio+20.

College of the Atlantic

Bar Harbor, Maine, USA
  • Promoted an international course entitled Our Daily Bread: Following Grains Through the Food System.
  • Offers numerous opportunities for international students to visit or study full-time.
  • Appointed a chair in Sustainable Food Systems.
  • Developed an e-learning sub-module.

Organic Research Centre—Elm Farm

Newbury, UK
  • Hosted the students of Our Daily Bread for three weeks in August 2009 and two weeks in August 2010 – UK course components were developed by ORC staff.
  • Provided farm advice to College of the Atlantic as part of faculty exchanges.
  • Offers internships in policy, education, research or self-designed residencies.
  • Developed an e-learning sub-module.
  • Is developing transatlantic research proposals as part of faculty exchanges.

University of Kassel

Witzenhausen, Germany
  • Hosted the Our Daily Bread students for one week in 2009 and two weeks in 2010 to study sensory analysis.
  • Offers opportunity for international students to earn post-graduate degrees.
  • Developed an e-learning sub-module and hosted the whole TAP e-learning course on its Moodle e-learning platform.
  • Contributes to courses taught at COA.
